Daine nods carefully, mindful of her passengers. She's aware of the effect Biffy has on most creatures (with a few exceptions, Pawvus among them), and she'd spent a lot of time reassuring Poppy and Thistle that they wouldn't be in any danger. Wild rats -- even Darrow's wild rats -- might be more skeptical, but her two adopted friends had eventually decided that, all things considered, scary with her was better than scary without her. Besides, Biffy's the sort of predator that might not even bother with little creatures like them. It's Pawvus that seems a likelier threat.
All that being said, she doesn't think the scent of a werewolf will be much of a deterrent for her predator friends. A hawk or an owl might visit her just to make a point, and she doesn't think anything will keep Quickbeak or the other crows from dropping in on her every once in a while.
The offer of an outbuilding is a surprise, and Daine gawps at Biffy's back as he walks back out to fetch the mattress. It's not that she expects Biffy to rescind his invitation for her to live here, but it only seems fair to see how this works before they start any talk of putting up whole new buildings just for her use. Still, whether it's smart or not, it is reassuring that he seems to be taking it for granted that she isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Kitten clambers up onto the mattress once it's set down, Pawvus following, and Daine takes the opportunity to crouch by the rats' cage and coax them out onto her hands. Poppy huddles on her palm, whiskers twitching dubiously, but Thistle sits up on her haunches to sniff at the air and peer around the room. "You'll be all right," Daine reassures them in an undertone, letting them into their cage and making sure their assorted hiding spots haven't been too disrupted by the move. Once they're both safely tucked away beneath an empty, upturned kleenex box, Daine shuts the door and straightens, turning back to Biffy.
"I think they'd be happiest if we just left them alone for a bit," she says, looking at Kitten and tilting her head purposefully towards the door. Kitten chirps and hops off the bed, leading Pawvus in a merry chase back down the hall towards the stairs, and Daine grins up at Biffy. "They're getting along better than I thought they would."
