wildmage_daine: (crow caw)
What makes it all the worse is that Daine was minding her own business.

She knows something odd is afoot; Biffy and Lyall have brought it up over the table, and she's been noticing some of the more shy immortals during her rounds -- the sort she wouldn't normally expect to spot. There was an undine in one of the ponds in the woods, and something she doesn't know the name for in one of the park's older oaks. But they hadn't tried to do her any harm (despite some of the stories she's heard), and she'd been leaving them well enough alone.

She's out for a nice evening flight -- minding her own business -- and alights on a branch to straighten out a few feathers. A faint gleam of off-color magic in her mind is the only warning she gets before a small form lands on her back. Daine lets out a startled croak as she feels a pair of spindly little legs wrapping around her, and tiny hands gripping the base of her feathers. Her wings open, at first to try and regain her balance and unseat her passenger... but when that doesn't work, they catch her as she drops off the branch.

There's something else, too: a pressure against her mind that reminds her of the will she can exert against the People, when it's needful. It might be enough to subdue a normal crow, but Daine's not a normal crow by a long shot, and she isn't subdued. She takes off for the farmhouse, cawing furiously, as the creature on her back tugs at her feathers and screeches words she can't understand.

It isn't until she makes it to the property that it occurs to her that she shouldn't let whatever this is into the house. Kitten, she suspects, could give it a run for its money, but she doesn't want to put the rats at risk -- or Robin, for that matter. Still cursing the creature out in a crow's expansive vocabulary, Daine lands on the lawn in a ruffled heap. Almost immediately, she switches to owl shape, her caws transforming into a screech as she twists around, trying to get at the thing with her beak or her talons as it crawls around her body, trying just as hard to avoid her.

He hears the cawing first, like a warning or an argument, whilst making himself tea in the kitchen, not like an ordinary crow. It's that thought that spurs Lyall to the open window to see what's going on. Daine, his other senses inform him. He can't tell if she's in trouble or angry, can't see anything behind her that her crow shape might be fleeing, but she divebombs onto the lawn, and shifts, twisting and screeching.

Robin begins to cry, as well, and that's just about it. Lyall storms out onto the lawn, suppressing the urge to growl at the invader, instead grabbing a broom to keep whatever it is that she's fighting at arm's length. "Can you shift back to human?" he hisses at Daine, trying to get a good look.
