"Next time I have to pop someone's leg back in or manhandle a horse, I'll give you a call," she says, only half-joking. He seems pleased in much the same way she did after her first healing -- not just happy it worked, but happy it didn't all go wrong under her hands, and that she hadn't left the creature worse off than she'd found it.

And she was lucky -- she was taught how to hunt and how to heal at the same time, even though her healing was done with splints and poultices and not magic. She knows Rowan can fight, but there'd be no cause for him to learn healing when they've got little robots who handle all that for you.

She gets to her feet, which turns out to be a mistake. A shift at the clinic and this have drained her more than she would've liked to admit, and she has to plant a steadying hand against the brickwork just to keep herself from keeling over. "Oh, for--" she mutters, wincing as she waits for her head to stop spinning. "I'm all right," she says before Rowan can start fussing, though she knows she must not make a convincing sight.
